What is chronic pain and how does it affect me? Chronic pain is pain that has lasted for an extended period of time. This time frame varies between experts, although the minimal length is 30 days, with some suggesting pain should be of a 6 or even 12 month duration. Regardless of the conflicting opinions, those who have lived with pain for any extended amount of time will be quick to share the many other problems that result from living with chronic pain.
Chronic pain can prevent you from being as active as you should be, interfering with work and causing a loss of income. It can prevent your ability to enjoy recreational activities, causing a feeling of isolation from your friends. This can easily lead to feelings of anger or depression. It can interfere with your sleep, either not allowing you to fall asleep easily, or waking you several times in the night. Lack of sleep is draining, which also increases pain. It can leave you irritable or emotional. Chronic pain is all consuming. It interferes with your physical, emotional, and even spiritual well being. Many have tried everything. Medications, injections, chiropractic, massage, even surgery. Nothing seems to help, leaving you with a feeling of hopelessness. I would like to offer some hope. Many people I have seen who were dealing with chronic pain related issues were able to find relief. I have a keen understanding of the cause and effect of pain symptoms, knowing right where to work to relieve the pain. I am also aware of conditions of which I cannot help. There are many aspects to chronic pain, including diet, exercise, emotional stability, as well as disc and nerve related issues, and neurological diseases.
